gorgeous togian, Jody.... Their snouts/throats remind me of Laces.... I will be joining the togian club, as I am picking up a LTC(over a year) pair of adults next week... I think they are awesome creatures...and will fit in nicely with my other black monitors....

Has his coloration/patterning changed at all since you got him? I hear that they are born looking more like a speckled water monitor, and as they age, they develop the dark coloration, and lose the speckling... The pair that I'm getting do not have any patterning, other than on their throats and ventral scales....

Cheers Mate,

bob

I wasn't sure which one to reply too LOL

To others yes they say they look like a speckled. To me they start off loking like a togian and end up looking like a togian.
Speckleds can clearly be differenciated from togians even as babies.

Speckleds have a typical water head and underbelly pattern. They have larger specks as well. If you painted stripes on a speckleds belly, and dumped it in mud then it may look togian.

Yes he has changed his specks are getting smaller and harder to see, his bands used to wrap around his mouth and the ocular stripe was visable. He also used to have tail stripes. He is getting much darker as time goes by. He however will keep the belly pattern or most of it along with his chin.

Komaini the black water monitor is the jet black specimens with no patterning at all. They are solid black from nose to tail.

I was not looking to get one but this one was sitting at a shop for sale with some normals. I noticed him and had to pick him up. Sometimes even I get lucky. Now to find a girl too bad I probly won't get the same kind of cash deal on her LOL.
