waiting on Ivan

kap10cavy Sep 15, 2004 07:17 PM

Hope I'm ready. We're not going to get the worst of Ivan but are expecting 90 mile an hour winds here. Sure to lose power.
Stocked up on water, stopped feedings monday and have the misters handy. Well, whatever happens I'm still going to the Dixie show saturday unless a tree falls on the house.

Good luck with it. Hope your not on the north east section.

I'm in Alabama, just outside Montgomery.
My biggest concern is the pecan trees.

could be real bad even inland...billy

Oh then you are on the north east side oh that sucks.

Well hang on tight and hope you do not lose power as long as I did.

If we lose power, which is almost certain, it shouldn't be out long. 2 churches set up as shelters, a fire department, a power company maintance building and substation and the mayors house all within 6 blocks of my house. Sure they'll clear up any problems we have pretty fast.
Atleast I hope so.

Well, the worst has passed. I am lucky to live in one of the few areas that have power. I am going to wait until tomorrow before feeding. I would hate to have one of the tornados Ivan is spawning to knock out the power right after feeding.
Now the only worry I have is the river flooding.
Awwww.... Mother Nature, aint she grand.

Glad it missed you. Just as a warning, we lost power several more times after the initial return of power, as some of the weakened trees decided to fall after the storm. Also, in the course of fixing some power outages, they strained the resourses and power went out where it had been on before. Now for Jeanne...

im in guntersville alabama , and we lost power for about 10 hours, and i had a few hundered frozen mice in the freezer, luckly they didn't thaw

LizardMom Sep 17, 2004 02:57 PM

You're lucky. We were out power for 5 days with Charley and 6 with Frances. I had one generator after Charley, but it still took two days for the storm to go through so we could hook up the generator, which did not run everything. I lost everything in both freezer and fridge both times, and the fridge seized up and had to be replaced after Francis. Wonder what the insurance will say when I claim 200 frozen mice!

I now have TWO generators, and as soon as we can build a concrete house for them, I'm getting them wired in so all I have to do is flip a switch and I can run EVERYTHING. No more thermoregulation by lugging lizards in and out of the only air conditioned room with reliable power for basking lights! A real pain, but every one survived. Thank goodness most of my lizards are small. The only casualty was the tail on my favorite male crested gecko. Poor thing freaked and dropped his tail!
