CB Success w/ U. henkeli - sort of

So I had a baby hatch out almost two weeks ago. He is gorgeous, problem is he may have been incubated too warm as he is not yet eating by himself - or if he is, I haven't noticed. So every day I trick him into opening hi little mouth, and I pop a 1/4 inch cricket in, and he swallows every time. Hopefully he'll get the idea. Just wanted to share... I still have 12 eggs incubating, so hopefully I'll come up w/ some nice babies...

Hello

Are you sure that he has shed his slough. Sometimes when I get weak babies (too high temperatures can weak them), they are not able to shed themselfes. If you don't help them to shed, the slough will dry in, and they won't be able to see, as the slough covers the eyes ,too. Therefore they won't be able to eat, although they are hungry. I lost my part of babies untill i found out to help thed shed.

Wow!!! You got 7 pietschmanni eggs thats amazing!!! I have two incubating right now and hopefully more since I have seen mine mating. How often do they lay eggs? About once a month? Any care tips or info. on the key to your success.
Thanks,
Matt

Hello Matt

No I haven't done anything special. I got my animals in March, and the dealer told me that they had been mating in his care.
So I guess I have been lucky. But I do believe that they have been mating in my terrarium, too, allthough i haven't seen it. I got my last two eggs just 14 days ago, and it seems as if one of my females looks pregnant again.

Hey! Thanks for the tip, but I noticed when I took him out of the incubation box that he was already sloughing off his "birth skin". I'm willing to bet it is eating, and I just am not taking careful count of the crickets, because it has very pronounced calcium sacs already. Looks to be growing too - and I don't think me assist feeding 1 cricket per day is doing it. Thanks for the advice though, and I'll try to get pics up soon!

Look for poop... if there's poop, he's eating... or... look for dead crickets... if there's dead crickets, he's not eating... either way, assist feedings are a good jump starter...
