new pair of Great Plains rats...

zelaphez Sep 15, 2004 11:56 PM

I just got in this pair of '04 Great Plains Rats from Ronda at NW Herpetoculture. Great communication...I'd definitely do business with her again. Anyway, I find these snakes to be much more jumpy and skittish than young cornsnakes. Do you find the temperament to be any different from corns as adults? I'd like to see pics of some adult emoryi if you have 'em.

I have Brazos Island Rats, which are from the s. TX coast....

The light colored one is a cross with a hypo corn. The southern Plains rats are very nocturnal which might make them a little more skittish than corns, but otherwise they are pretty mellow even as adults.

Here's an adult male...

Sorry, I don't have any exactly like yours...

I have adults that are very skittish. Not at all like my corns. They are not as bad as my Trans-Pecos Rat Snake. Some days she just sits there and hisses and strikes at me. (Very bold for a little girl still eating pinkies) On the other hand my Emori's are great eaters. They never saw a F/T mouse they didn't like. My three footer will eat three at a sitting, maybe more if I gave him a chance.
