recommend a vet? questions to ask?

rtdunham Sep 16, 2004 06:54 AM

I've been lucky enough to have found an outstanding herp vet. Others aren't so fortunate, but getting to know a vet is an essential part of hereptoculture: If he/she isn't needed at the time, a time will come...

So:
1) anybody have a good vet in the SF Bay area i could recommend to a friend?
2) if there are several vets in an area, what questions do you recommend asking to sort out the best from the rest?

My friend will be watching the posts here.

thanks
terry

A post a few down on Sep. 13th asks almost the same question. There is a link in one of the replies to a listing of herp vets. There are several on there from San Francisco. This would be a good place to start.

Hi Terry

I've used and heared a lot of good things about Dr. Kenneth A. Harkewicz @ Berkely Dog & Cat Hospital(2126 Haste St Berkely, CA 94704). He's the official vet for the East Bay Vivarium, a very well known and large reptile specialty store here in the bay. A lot of my herper buds have also used him for their herp related problems and have been going to him for years. He is very well known to do very good work with herps so he's highly recomended by herpers here in the bay. If your friend needs someone closer, the link below should help in finding one locally. Hope this helps. Take care.
