finding a good vet...

rtdunham Sep 16, 2004 06:59 AM

I've been lucky enough to have found an outstanding herp vet. Others aren't so fortunate, but getting to know a vet is an essential part of hereptoculture: If he/she isn't needed at the time, a time will come...

So:
1) anybody have a good vet in the SF Bay area i could recommend to a friend?
2) if there are several vets in an area, what questions do you recommend asking to sort out the best from the rest?

My friend will be watching the posts here.

thanks
terry

Hey Terry,
Depending on the animal and price of that animal (wouldn't be cost-effective unless more of a high end animal), I would say Scott Stahl in Fairfax, Va. He accepts shipments of animals and said people send him animals all the time from around the US, so distance isn't that essential. He has people picking them up at the airport. He is great and knows his profession. In fact, reptiles are his specialty. He also teaches you as you go rather then just do everything himself. You can read about him at www.seavs.com. I've had great experiences with him.
