Feeding Hints from the Pros??

Larryskeepers Jun 26, 2003 12:26 PM

Hey i was just looking to see if anyone had any tips for me to get my 100% Hets to feed.. They came well started, but ive only had them for a few days and I would like them to eat for me. Any hints.. I have them at a temp grad of 90-85 hot side and 72-75 cold side.. and they have a hide on each side one hot one cold, they are covered up to keep it dark and help them acclimate from there trip...Is there anything else i should be doing.. I know that last night they didnt feed for more than one reason but i was hopeing that they would eat a F/T pinkie which they didnt seem to intrested in.. Friday im going to try a live pinkie mouse, or rat pup... depending on what i can get my hands on...should i just wait it out or should i try to offer them more food Friday??? Just looking for any and all advice about these little guys, by the way there names are Arwen and Aragorn... from Lord of the Rings.. I know im such a nerd, just thought they were pretty names.

Thank you for all the ideas and help in advance...
Sincerly,
Rose & Steve

Let them settle. Give them a couple weeks and then feed them what the breeder says they were taking. But there is little reason to feed a BP right after the stress of a trip. The more you try the harder you will push them away from eating for you.

Not really in a rush to have them eat as much as in a rush to make sure that they will and that they are all settled in and I can stop worrying about my little guys... Anyways i guess ill just wait it out a week and then try them again... they should be nice and settled in by then... Thanks for all your helpful advice...

Sincerely,
Rose

feed whatever they were started on by the breeder or dealer. mice and rats smell completely different and they are not just interchangeable.

if it is rats, go with a good sized pup. if it is mice, use hoppers or small adults. snakes eat prey items that are as big around as the snake is at its thickest point. pinkie mice are for corn snakes.

with a good setup (smaller is better), good temps, and a good hidespot, an appetizing prey item should bring a strong response with just a few tries.

best of luck.
