Swollen foot and toes on Adult female that was delivered today...What can I do to fix it....

robertmcphee Sep 16, 2004 11:46 AM

She is extremely healthy in every other way. She just has one foot that is twice the size as the others, looks as though she has already lost at least one toe on that foot only. I currently have her soaking in about a half inch of water in the deli cup she was delivered in. After she soaked for awhile I thought I would snap a few pics and get a closer look at it. Im relatively new to Leos (thanks to my daughter who just had to have one, and ofcourse how can you have just one of anything) I have been keeping mainly boas, I currently have a modest collection of about twenty snakes (all boas) and now 3.3 leopard geckos.

If anyone has an idea about what I could do to help her swollen foot let me know. I have a decent herp vet and can have him look at her If need be.

Thanks
Bob

Does it look like there is shed stuck on her foot?
If it is swollen it may be an infection, posably from bad sheds in that area.
some pics may help.
Aside from soaking it I don't think there is anythine you can do, aside from seeing a vet if it seems red and infected.

I would also contact whoever you recieved her from.

Yah bring it into the herp vet to take a look at it they may give some disenfectant...I just cannot remember nor spell the brand that humans use.
It definately sounds infected. soaking it will help to get any lose shed off like previously mentioned. Next, you should prolly leave her on paper towel substrate, NO loose substrate, and by her/itself until it fully heals, which is prolly pretty obvious. It may or may not lose toes but it will still lead a healthy life

Good luck

Sorry it is not a very good pic but here it is.

It's hard to see in that picture, but I don't think that is from unshed skin. Looks more like either an abcess or a problem in the joint, some sort of gout, or calcium deficiency. I wouldn't mess around, I would get that girl to the vet as soon as you can.

Also, if it was sold to you w/out disclosing the condition, I would have a few words with the seller, no way is that something that they should have ignored, or sold her w/out telling you about....

Yah Sams right
that's not discolored like an infected limb, Vet time.
good luck

That doesn't look like a shedding problem. I haven't seen anything like it.
I agree with Sam, see a vet. And I too would also be upset, if I was sold a gecko with such a problem, without being told about it. Have you contacted the seller?

with her health wise. And I must agree. She is the biggest Leo I have ever seen extremely healthy except her foot. It was his daughters and she lost interest in them. I probably should have known, I bought them without pictures and only paid $60 shipped. I think that they are decent given the price. Ill take her to my vet ASAP.

Thanks
Bob

She's lost almost all her toes and with the foot swollen up like that I'd guess she's got more dry shed on her leg. Keep on soaking the leg. If you can get the shed off, give it a couple days for the swelling to go down. If it's still swollen, then you'll; either have to lance and remove the infected material and betadine a couple times a day. I'd just take her to a vet in case the infection is in the bone. He'll be able to give you injectable Batril, too.
