What room temperature do baby crested prefer?

Gecko2525 Jun 26, 2003 12:36 PM

Or what is the proper room temperature they should be at (in F degrees)? I know they are more sensitive to heat then adults.

Yesterday my room read 86 F!!!! I went crazy trying to cool it down. I removed my babies RIGHT away. I have 2 fans in my room, my blinds are kept closed and the A/C was going. I couldn't believe it. Normally it is at 77 - 79 these days, but I guess it has been hot outside lately.

I placed my babies around my A/C vent so that they can have a cool side and a hot side. I noticed they prefer the colder side. I'm think of taking them out of my room because for some reason my room gets hotter than the rest of the house. Maybe my Bearded Dragons heat lamp...but heat my whole room!!!!! It is about 11' x 12' or a bit bigger.

Thanks!

Jeesh Liz a bit hot in there? You def want to keep it under 80F, cresteds don’t do well in temps that high. As for the babies keep them around 75-77, pretty much the same as adults. You are right though they will succumb to high heat faster then the adults. Carefully by the AC otherwise you might get the opposite problem too cold…..lol.

That was just what i was going to ask, about temps. We have a heat wave happening up here right now and even though my geckos are in what used to be the rec room (pretty much underground with a narrow window at the top of the room) it still got very hot down here. Luckily i had already moved Zeek to a cooler part of the house. What upset me was this morning as i surfed the net looking for info.....i stumbled upon a site about cresteds that said day time temps could reach into the high 80's. I wish i would have bookmarked it cause i wanted to email them and ask if that was a misprint lol. Now i can't find the site........go figure

I'm taking my leo to the vet tomorrow, he ate like a pig a few nites ago, but now he's not eating.........again! Its an on and off thing, a few days eating, then a few not...and he's lost weight so in to the vet he goes. When i'm there i'm going to ask the vet if he's heard if the CGD is up here yet and where i might get some. I'm also going to see if he'll do a fecal on Zeek to see if he's doing Ok just to make sure whatever is affecting my leo hasn't gotten to him, though i doubt it. Leo is in quarentine and i'm practicing all the proper isolation techniques--comes from working in the medical field

Anyways.......thats again for the confirmation about the temps

Yeah I know. It is hot in there. NORMALLY......it is 75 - 77 F it has just been SO HOT lately.

I will put some digital temp gagues in the babies to make sure it is not too cold. There aren't on the A/C vent just near it.

I spray the cages like 3 times a day to cool it down. When I move it should be easier because I will have less windows and my BD will be downstairs so I won't have his heat lights adding to the already hot room. LOL

I remember awhile back a crested breeder told me that crested won't breed until the temps are 80 degrees or a bit higher. I never followed that rule and I did fine. I wonder why she thought that.

Thanks!
