HELP! I think my green TF broke his ankle!

Oxford Sep 16, 2004 01:50 PM

Hello,

I have a 3 1/2 GTF which had been fine-got him a month or two ago-this morning he was clinging to the right angle of the glass, but his rear left leg was just hanging there limply. After a bit I saw him flex the hip and knee successfully, but the foot is just hanging there.

What can I do!!!??? I had a terrible experience with the vet I took another of my frogs to, the frog died from the shot it was given, so I'm looking for something I can do at home for him!

Thanks for any help you can give,
C. Oxford

As unfortunate as it is, you are going to have to take him back to the vet. If the leg is broken, it might have to be amputated and the end cauterized to prevent major bleeding. There is not safe was to sedate a frog of that size as far as I know. If you are going to someplace that is not knowlegable with reptiles, then find somewhere else. Tell us how its going, we hope the best for your little green freind.

We had him put down. He was suffering and I couldn't stand it anymore. Thanks for your help. He's safe now, and not in pain anymore. I wish I knew HOW it happened!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that

Those tiny frogs are so delicate, anything could have happened. Make sure if you have any others you suppliment them with calcium and vitamin d3 or UV light. If there not getting enough it can deffinitly lead to brittle and easily broken bones.
