how to take of veiled chameleon while on vaca?

chamsrcool Sep 16, 2004 03:59 PM

im going on vacation for a week (not for awhile) but when this time comes i would like to know what would work.

Im pretty sure that just dumping crickets into the cage and giveing food for the crickets for the week wouldn't turnout good.so thats not gunna haappine

im just worried that if somone comes over they wont take care of him right.....i mean i usually dump some crickets in the cage along with new cricket food if needed then spray the cage and thats all for the usual day. so would that work to have the person come over and do that?

the last possiblity is to just take him with us....we did it two years ago with a jax so the only prroblem would be the part with his "aggression".we are going to florida although he is outside all day/night right now by the time vacation comes it will be nearing the end of winter where he wont have any sunlight at all.

what about water? You only spray his cage once a day? No dripper? He could get by with limited food but water is your biggest concern. What do you mean he has no sunlight? I assume you provide proper lighting when he is indoors? I know you have been around this forum for a while so I guess I am a bit surprised - or maybe I am just misunderstanding (wouldn't be the first time )

If you are not going for a while you could teach your friend in prep for it. have him/her come in a few times a week so he/she can watch the process. Just choose someone you can trust with him. If he expereinces the care as you do it he/she will be more apt to do it right and care enough as opposed to you just leaving a note or showing it once.

just my 2 cents

i meant right now he is in sunlight...during the winter he wont be in sun as in the real thing.....of course i have uvb bulbs.

also most days i do spray twice....dripping doesn't seem to work to well with this guy for somreason....i think he gets his moister from the food becuase i see him acually drink once or twice a week.

Hope I didn't offend you I really didn't mean to, it just wasn't clear to me. As I said I knew you'd been here for a long time and figured you have it all down OK

Well, hopefully you will find a good, trustworthy friend who you can work with beforehand. It is always a much nicer vacation when we are not obsessing about our critters! I am fortunate to have a friend whom I trust implicitly with Luna, et al
