snapping turtle baby cage

mantisman Sep 16, 2004 06:19 PM

here are some photos of my baby snapping turtle cage.
the pool is bent steel. and i have a cup underneeth the water with a bubble on top so that the turtles can go in the cup and still have air, its funny watching them
the water plants are from petco. one of the water plants was from the mississippi river. ofcourse, i cleaned it as much i could before puting it in the cage to remove any pesticides.
the uper left hand corner is a pump so it circluates the water, not only filtering it but keeping the fish alive.
the shallow part by the water is a place for the turtles to burrow if they want to, and the plants are to make the cage look more real. the coconut hut is for the turtles if they need some shade from the light

How many snappers are in that cage? Expect tail nipping and that cage isn't going to last 3 months for so many.

Wow! What are you going to do when they all get larger? That does seem rather crowded don't you think? Fun looking cage though

bugboy0011 Sep 22, 2004 06:00 AM

hey,
that cage will last them for quite a while. they LOVE it in there. I will release the turtles back into the wiled next. (once they've learned how to hibernate)
thanks,
Craig Condon

no that cage won't last awhile with proper care they can all be 2.5-3'' or even alittle more by spring and you woudl have no room for them by then in that thing.

Could have problems depending how long theyve been in captivity. Might not adjust right back to the wild.

I don't know if anybody else sees this or not but it looks like your keeping your turt in a big bowl of mud.

mantisman Sep 29, 2004 10:01 PM

that is not actually mud you see, it is sand. dont worry I am not one of those people who dont care about their own pets.
i would like to make the cage as realistic as possible, (if you know what i meen) ill get some better quality photos to show you that it is not "a puddle of mud"
thanks much,
Craig Condon
