Ive read lots of care sheets and im wonderng about this direct sunlight thing for 30 minutes well half the whole year i wouldnt be able to take it out.Do you think if i put the tank by a window in my room(which always has a curtain)and opened the curtain for part of the day would i be able to do this? I would take it out in the spring and summer but its just to cold here during the fall and winter.

No, glass filters out the UV rays. That is why you need a UVB bulb, make sure you get a bulb that actually produces UVB not just UVA. Incandescent bulbs cannot produce UVB, so you need either a mercury vapor bulb or a flourescent tube, like the ReptiSun 5.0.
