Re Gila eggs in incubator - whitneywee, Aug 16, 2004

Just curious-
Have you guys tried using dry perlite in the location of the polyester batting? My observation is that perlite is not hygroscopic like vermiculite is, if it is not moistened initially. However if the perlite in contact with the eggs has been moistened by the keeper, it appears that it can cause dessication of the eggs (like vermiculite) at it dries out. When in direct contact with each other, water molecules tend to form chains and drag each other around; ie from the egg into the substrate and then into the air. This is an interesting topic. Thanks.

I have used dry perlite under the eggs--works great.
