Recently I took a severely burn doreanus, his case was a first to me and I didn’t know how to deal with it, as both his front feet hade no skin left on the underside also his forearms and his left side hade sever burn and burned tail base, this monitor regurgitated all foods and showed sing of internal infection. It was out of the question that this animal dies on me! Money was no object and I would have traveled if needed to see a good vet.
All proposed treatments by vet’s seemed to me as a total lost for the monitor, everything Iv tried was failing as the monitor was constantly walking on his wounds, then I remembered reading a post by FR, I cant remember the post entirely and it wasn’t about burns, however it applied to my situation nevertheless, FR was advising Jeff about how cooling might have saved his monitor. Well it did save mine! I simply placed him in a dark bin with dry leaf litter for about 2 months at 20-22c, I offered water just a few times in the period, the monitor completely healed and recovered and is doing excellent now.
The lesson IV learned is that lower metabolism and higher metabolism should be part of every monitor’s husbandry.
Many many thanks!
