sriftwood bleaching

tredding Sep 17, 2004 09:06 PM

I went on a gettin mission and brought back a bunch of really cool driftwood from Lake Travis. As suggessted I soaked everything in a 5% bleach solution to kill any possible bugs. My question is how long should I let them dry before putting in the cage?

did you rinse them off? the chlorine odor can hurt the respitory tract. rinse them well...let them dry INSIDE. this is the most common mistake i can think of they bleach them then put back outside to let dry and more bugs crawl back in. i'd say until its dry to the touch.

I have a rootball all twisted and what not, i soaked in bleach solution and allowed to dry a week inside, i then placed my nose against it and sniffed real hard to see if i could detect any bleach etc, sounds weird, but better safe than sorry and it worked and Atavia loves it.

You can also stick it in the oven for about a half hour at 200-250 degrees, work real well, but keep an eye on it. also kills any bugs that the bleach didn't get.
