Are Newborns docile???

diggy415 Sep 17, 2004 11:11 PM

I was wondering if new born snakes of all species are docile when hatched/born? Or do they try to get away from you, never had a clutch but will in a few years when my babies get big enough. Can't wait.

In my experience, no! I think they tend to be a lot flightier than adults, and tend to require some regular handling to acclimate them to being handled. Corns more so than some other, slower snakes.

Don't let that discourage you, though. Just be prepared to work gently with them.

It won't discourage me but wondering if it was passed on to the offspring is all, i see by the babies i got they are still skitterish, they are quick to strike but i get them on a branch and slowly lower them into my hand and they still spook but it gives me an idea of what to look for in a few years. I have 2 normals and a ghost and a candycorn. A male is a normal and the femals are the rest, any ideas who will make the prettier babies?

Hatchlings are fiesty little buggers...much more active, flighty and even nippy.
But that's what makes them so fun...lol
They calm down, though, so no worries.
