Mice defrosted during power outage

crtoon83 Sep 17, 2004 11:18 PM

I have about 150 or so pinkies/fuzzies in my freezer that defrosted during the power outage. They were still cold by the time I was able to re-freeze them, i'd say maybe they got to 40? 50 tops? I re-froze them but before I feed them to my snakes will they be okay to feed? I normally wouldn't ever refreeze thawed/heated food but I was wondering have they already started decomposition? Is there any nutritional value lost? Is it just better to bite the $$ and buy more? Thanks, Chris

They are probably OK as long as they were still sealed up. They may be a little more macerated than normal and will probably start to decompose more quickly once thawed again, but they shouldn't hurt your snakes.
