Wish I could post a pic. Anyway, it's 3 inches or so long, 2 inches or so wide, yellow-green, black legs, and black pinchers up front. Beautiful - what kind is it?

hello
are the pincers up and down or side to side?
It is probably a dynasties tityus a large,, base of tree dwelling
bettle that starts to fly about now.
The pincers are up and down. I will look up the scientific name you gave me to see if the pic matches.
It is indeed a Dynastus um what you said - what does it eat? Just curious not keeping it or even touching it.
Wish I could get a picture though -it's quite beautiful.

they usualy eat sap from weeping wounds on trees, but in captivity they will eat bannana. they need to be kept house plant moist. The best set up is a 10 gallon tank with 1/2 oak frass, the stuff in the bottom of an old cracked open oak tree , looks like red dirt, keep house plant moist.
I'm an entomologist, and it took me a few minutes to figure out what beetle this might be. I was going to post a reply, but checked yours first to see if you had already answered the question. I must concur, and by the way, you're one sharp treefrog.
