An early birthday present...

Barry Miller Sep 18, 2004 12:02 AM

Actually my birthday is Sunday, but I'm sure she hung on to them as long as she could. I was blessed with being able to watch these ones being born. What an awesome miracle. She was still birthing when this picture was taken, so she hadn't had time to nudge them all out of their sacks yet. She later gently nudged each of the rest out, while arching large parts of her body in the air, being careful not to crush any. Never ceases to amaze me. There's just something about watching a baby boa take its first breath.

hi

I am glad at least a couple people had the discernment to spot a really kick-ass litter of boas. I would have been crushed if my post had been ignored, especially after a litter of one got so much attention below, LOL. Though I am sure the gooey mess is not the greatest presentation. About three or four years ago Tim Belknap lost his last breeder south Brazilian female due to birthing complications. He sold me his sub-adult Lemke's and dubbed me "Keeper of the (Lemke) Line". I would like to think that I haven't let Lloyd down. I have never lost a single south Brazilian, and have produced some pretty nice litters (Belknap is amazed at how many). Kerry King has been in touch (got me back stage passes to Oz Fest), he wants to get back into them. This latest litter is my crowning achievement. Without a doubt my best litter of boas ever. It is a shame that there is not more interest in locality boas, especially localities from countries such as Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia which are closed to exportation. For that matter do we need to be importing animals from Suriname? At the same time I recognize that this forum is not representative of the herp community, many locality enthusiasts don't bother coming here. I have also been told that a couple of regular posters on this forum consider me "the enemy". This was quite a blow, as I had always thought of them as friends and compatriots. The weird thing is they don't view me as business competition, as they don't produce anything. Apparently just jealous of my personal collection. Oh well, I guess I need to just get past it, people will be petty. But I sure miss Pete Watson, and I am grateful for those that approach this awesome hobby in a positive way, it's supposed to be fun!

the way you think and what you have accomplished mr. miller .. i have the same views on the locality boas that you have.. IMO there are no prettier and more attractive snakes as the true redtails !! no matter which ones they are. i dont bash people who mix different subspecies of boas but i myself preffer the true, pure redtails.. guyana , surinam , peruvian ,etc !

keep up the awsome job barry !! you have a fan here !

p.s. i sent you an e-mail thru here like 3 days ago.. just wondering if you got it ? and if you didnt would it be better to send you an e-mail thru your site as ive sent out a few e-mails thru here and the classifides and never a single response.. thanks in advance , marlon

as are everything you produce. Starting with the best of the best has to produce the best of the best.

I think the competetive nature of people can ruin the hobby and make it alot less fun. Give me a ring if you are around .. let's talk snake...
