Anyone se the Barbra Walters special last night? Lots of celebreties (yawn)and some big news makers.
What was particularly interesting was the section on her Presidential interviews. like them or not it gave a fascinating glimpse into the personalities of every president from Nixon...who candidly spoke about the tapes he should have destroyed...through Ford (likeable), Carter (who looked nervous) Clinton (on morality) and Bush senior ( talking about why he shouldn't have said "read my lips"
and Bush Jr who talked about his drinking.
They also had Lady Bird talking about LBJ. Betty Ford, Barbra Bush, Hillary Clinton and Mamie Eisenhower
The highlight (for me)was a ride she took down a back road on the California coast in a battered old jeep with Reagan. Whether you liked him or not, it was obvious that the man deeply loved this country. He talked about the land-not himself (the only one to do so). His was the most openly relaxed and non political sounding interview.
In all it was a rare chance to compare the personalities of the major presidents of our times.
