A recap of the UV discussion

HBAILEY Sep 18, 2004 10:24 AM

Are UV bulbs needed? Yes. No. Yes they are. No they’re not. You’re stupid. No you’re an Idiot. How many monitors have you hatched? That's not the point watch as I dazzle you with my scientific jargon and cite many sources that arguably apply. More comments on who is dumber. Repeat ad nausium.

In conclusion.

Are UV bulbs NEEDED for successful husbandry and breeding? No

Should monitors have some source of UV? Debatable, fact is it can't hurt. As far as sources, I found that the "grow" bulbs at Lowes claim to emit a similar range as the much more expensive bulbs that you would buy at the pet store. At about $6.00 a bulb I figure it may help the monitor so what the h***.

Can we stop arguing like children and stop burying other post that are most likely more interesting? Hopefully.

I'm not trying to offend anyone, just trying to bring some perspective and levity to the argument.

This forum is to present many sides of all issues pertaining to keeping monitors in captivity, the discussion about UV lite or bulbs, without a doubt fits in the mission of this forum.

I agree with you opinion on the bulbs, but surely not on these threads on UV.

My hope would be that the folks that oppose my views and results would post tangible responces, instead of the world is flat and beer on a basketball.

I would hope they showed animals, and conditions, with what lites what photoperiod, and lastly show the results. But alas we all wait. FR

I think I uderstand your point of view better than some, or so I would hope. I was just trying to add some perspective and humor. I agree that the debate is what the forum is here for, and it made me stop and think about how it applies to my husbandry. So, it accomplished its goal. I also agree that although theories are great, results are what count.

You must admit, though, that the best way to get everyone posting on this forum is to mention UV. One way or another, doesn't matter. I learn something every time one of these discussions surfaces, which is the idea, even if what I learn is just how much I don't know.

Just post something really far fetched like "my monitor runs away with is tail cocked from my UV bulb. Is this a problem?" or "my argus seems a little small is it because I don't use UV?" and watch the fun begin. At least this forum actually moves unlike some of the other forums here .
