How about using gravel as substrate? I don't think they would eat it like sand? Or do they?

I'm guessing gravel consists of rocks and pebbles maybe? Well this would actually be worse than sand if they eat it. So the answer is no, sorry. I would go with non adhesive shelf liner, paper towel, retile carpet, or washed playsand buy only the sand if the gecko is over 6 inches and has a calcium dish and proper supplements and you feed from a dish to lower impaction chance.
I meant aquarium gravel. I was thinking of getting vitamin sand or calcium sand but not till its older.

Gravel is pobably the worst substrate you could use...its not that the leo would just eat it, they constantly miss their food or get substrate in their mouth when they strike and how many thing in this world can digest a large rock?? none if any....

See thats why I thought it might be better, because a stone would be easier to push out its mouth than sand, and sand would stick to food maybe where gravel wouldn't. I dont know, just going to use paper towels, not as pretty, but a hell of a lot easier for both of us. Maybe I'll do the tile thing later on.

I highly recomend tile. It's like paper towels just looks more natural. It's sooo easy to clean and put down. You can go ahead and use it now even if your gecko is a baby.
