I just love my new rat snake... it's amazing!

Hi there:

I keep lots of reptiles and amphibians and snakes, most of which are large colubrids like gopher snakes and corn snakes. Recently at the All Ohio Reptile Show I bought a yellow * Everglades intergrade over 4 feet in length, I just wanted to share how much I love this beautiful snake.
I still don't know if it is a male or female, but it s REALLY powerful! It is almost like it is in control of ME! The rat snake likes to lie in the sunlight on top of his cage and bask for a long time. It is just so great. Watching it eat a huge defrosted adult rat is simply amazing to watch.
It is just so large and powerful and beautiful.
If you want a huge snake, but pythons boas and Anacondas are too big for you to keep, I highly reccomend a rat snake, unless you get a permit for an indigo.. Which I have never kept but just love!

Hi Dave -
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and enjoyment with your yellow X everglades rat snake. I agree with you. The obsoleta group is one of my favorites. People usually talk of the power of bullsnakes and pinesnakes of the pituophis group. They most certainly are great constrictors, but I think a 6 foot obsoleta has comparable strenth.

They are the greatest! I got most of mine from the Ohio show also...And most of the REST of mine from a friend who sells there. Duffy
