carrying eggs?

DeanAlessandrini Sep 18, 2004 06:34 PM

I just got a pair of D azurus a month ago, breeder said they are about 6 months old. They are only maybe a little over 1"

Anyway...ONE of them all of the sudden has an ENORMOUS belly.
It looks sort of partioned in the center, and big and rounded.

Both frogs have been eating a LOT, my fruitfly colony just really took off.

Is it possible it could be carrying eggs already?
Or is it just fat?

It's probably just fat at 6 months. The thumbnails may mature, breed and lay eggs at 5 or 6 months, but I think Azureus and the tinctorius group don't mature until about nine months to a year or more.

I don't have azureus, but some of my other frogs are plump dumplings. One of my male pumilios looks as if he were the one carrying the eggs, while the female remains slender. If I hadn't witnessed him calling and hadn't seen the female laying the eggs, I would swear the sexes were reversed.
