Just saying hi and asking a question or two.

Hey everyone im new here and would first like to say how great it is to have a place to ask questions and see everyones pythons and pets.
I recently bought a 7 ft retic and ive noticed some odd things. First he is a "drooler" every now and then while im holding him he kinda just leaks saliva out of his mouth, not to much and he dosent vomit or anything like that just a little spit.
What would cause this? Stress maybe?
And secondly he was originally in a vision cage and now is in a large aquarium with a screen top. He has been testing his cage and rubbing his head against the top. He has rubbed some scales not quite raw but enought to scare me.
Ive been putting Vitashell on him but not very much (he dosent like the top of his head to be touched, like most snakes)
What else can i do?
Thank you very very much for any help i really appricate it.

I have noticed that my snakes will do the same drooling thing after just drinking. If you hold them to where their heads are not pointing up it will just run right back out except real slimy. I do not like using screen ( I know somtimes we have little choice but if you can I would change it to somethign else. I would recommend a large plastic box. with holes drill in it. It holds humidity and they canot see thru it well and easier to clean and a few other good reasons. Good luck

Aquariums are for fish!! The last place a retic should be is in a fish tank. And one with a screen top no less... Please please get ahold of a better enclosure for you animal. Retics require higher humidity than most snakes so if possible you'll want the ventilation holes on the sides and not the top. Give him a big hide box as well. If you can't properly house him please find him a new home.

Wow nice to meet you too. I've never had a problem with my anaconda in his cage nor have any of my friends with large snakes nor the pet store That specializes in retics and anacondas. I already have a new cage for him and before vision cages were out no one was even against using a screen top. I think you should keep your opinions to your self if your gonna tell me what to do instead of sugggest alternatives.
