C. similis question

robertIII Sep 19, 2004 12:36 AM

hi, i am currently debating on weather to get a C. similis or a rhino iguana. my question about c.similis is can they be housed in pairs? i know cage size comes into effect and what not, but just a general question, because if i was to get the c.similis i was thinking of geting to hatchlings and raising them, now i releaze this might not be possible, thats why i am asking on this forum, also anyone who would like to share any info or experiance they have had with c. similis iguanas is appreciated, sice i have read all the post about rhinos i would like to learn more about the spiney tail iguana thnx

C. Similis can definitely be housed in pairs. but make sure you have only 1 male.
I have cages each with 1.2 C. Similis in them & they all get along fine. You just dont wat males together they bite & fight each other & end up losing tails & toes.

do you think they would tame down better if i only got one?

If you want them to be pets & be tame then you have to have time to spend with each one. One wild acting one won't tame down because it's cagemate is calm & nice. So if theis is something you want as a special pet, then yes. Only get 1. Ctenos are known for being quite nasty naturally. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. But if your time allows it & you get them as juveniles living together, your chances are pretty good at having reasonably tame similis.

i think i will try to get a pair, i am thinking of purchasing them from manny , they are juveniles so hopefully they will tame down. but that is kind of what attracts me to them i like pets with some spunk, but i also want ones that will tame down as well, i dunno i guess we will see!! what has your experiance with c.similis? do u have any pics? thnx for the info and help

Get a similus first and see how you like it. After a few years, consider the latter.
