New baby Uro not eating.

CJ_and_Nastalia Sep 19, 2004 10:35 AM

Hi All,

This is my first time posting and I just got two baby uromastyx of the internet and they are very cute. They have been in the cage for a few days now and one will not eat. The other one hogs the food but even when the pigish one is out the little one won't eat. I really don't want to seperate them but what could I do?

Thanks in advance,
Nastalia

Is the baby that's not eating smaller then the baby that is eating? I'm going to label the baby that eats baby A and the baby that doesn't eat baby B.

Ok you should try taking baby A out before you feed them, then put the food in with baby B to see if it will eat when baby A hasn't. (I hope this makes sense to you). Baby B could be intimidated by baby A.

So just put food in with Baby B (remember to take baby A out) and see if the baby b will eat. It could just be intimidation.

Have you taken them to a vet to do a fecal? It is possible that the one is sick, though depending on where you got them from the liklihood of this varies. My first inclination would be that "Baby B" the not eating one, is intimidated by "Baby A". Just removing Baby A from the equation for a short time may not solve this, if Baby B has been intimidated for a bit it may not trust that baby A won't jump out and beat it up for eating.

Be very careful with babies that are not eating, this can escalate quite quickly into a serious condition, specifically due to the dehydration that can occur.

If you got them from a reputable breeder I would strongly recommend given them a call and asking their advice.

Good Luck with your babies, and please keep us posted!

He/She could be sick, it could be lots of things. THey might still be getting used to their surrondings. What kind of setup do you have? Improper temps and things like this can cause not eating. Share some more details, then maybe we can help.

Just an opinion, but bee pollen from a health food store can temporarily increase appetite, however it becomes less effective if used often.
