Skinny Burm

SizeDoesMatter Sep 19, 2004 01:14 PM

Forum,
We recently purchased a sweet little burm from a friend of mine. She's around the 4' mark (maybe a little more) and seems thin to me. She's got little rolls of skin hanging off of her, like she doesn't quite fit the skin she's in. Her previous owner was feeding her 1 f/t medium rat per week. I've had her about a week now and fed her two medium rats. I'd like to fill that skin out before she gets much bigger. Any ideas? I'm not really sure of any other way to do this.

I would just keep her on a healthy feeding schedule and nature should kick in and she'll catch up. That's what happened with mine. He was fairly thin at 8' 3" when I got him. The guy before me was only feeding him 2 medium rats at 8' every 2 weeks so he wouldn't grow to big. Anyway, I upped him to jumbo's and have been trying to get him hooked on rabbits. Right now I have to feed him a small rat, then chase it with the head of the rabbit. In time he should catch on.

Feed it large or jumbo rats on the same schd hes been on. Its going to take a while for a burm to grow more girth rather than length.

I had this problem with a ball python that had been on a once a month feeding schedule and she looked like she was getting maybe one rat at each feeding. I don't know if it works the same but I just heated up a bunch of rats and she ended up striking, constricting, and swallowing seven at that sitting. The next week she took four and the following week two. I just let her eat as much as she wanted without forcing her or anything. Now she eats thousand gram rats once a week and is about 4 1/2 feet long, very thick, and growing. Your snake will know how much it wants or needs to eat. Just offer it as much as it will take. sera
