Painted turtles - which one?!?!?

herpheart13 Sep 19, 2004 01:40 PM

Ok, I originally planned on buying 2 painted turtles, a Southern and an Eastern. I now am not sure. See, I wanted 2 painteds that look different than my cooter and eachother. And I wanted some colorful ones. I didn't want a Western because they get bigger. Now I kinda have my eye on the Midlands. Which one is prettier? The Midland or the Eastern? Which one is smaller? Which one looks more different than the Southern painted? Please answer with some helpful info. Thanks!

The most colorful is the Western, and the smallest is the midland painted. Female painteds can get around 10 inches, males usually max out around 5.

Thanks, which one is your personal favorite choice - the eastern or the midland? I'm most likely getting a southern too - which one looks the most different from a southern painted and also from the cooter I already own? Thanks!!!

lol did anyone ever tell you that you ask way too many questions?? I understand that you are curious about the herp world around you(or not around you), but try another forum lol, j/p. I don't really have a personal favorite, but I've only kept midlands, I don't like easterns as much.

Which one looks the most different from a southern painted and also from the cooter I already own? FYI, no painted turtle should look like your cooter! You should be able to tell apart a midland or a eastern from your southern from the stripe down the shell, lol or atleast I think the southern is the one with the stripe, not sure.

I have an eastern painted turtle hatchling and it is awsome. It was shy when i first got it but now it will eat from my hand and is very active. It is still a little shy but it will probably loose that later on. I like the easterns(but ive never had the midlands)

I read somewhere that M. Painteds are the secondest most colorful other than Westerns and they and the Southerns look more different that the Southerns and Easterns. Is that true?
