New baby - no mama!

newbeardiemama Sep 19, 2004 02:17 PM

I had 3 green anoles back a few months ago. One of them became pregnant, and we were excited to get some new babies. It was a nice day, so I took them outside for some sunlight. I then asked my son to bring them in, and he didn't hear me (blah, blah), anyway, the sun moved...and the daddy anole & pregnant female were both dead. (3rd survived). Long story short, I felt horrible. Well, apparently the female had already laid - because we had a little surprise in the cage this morning. (Can't tell you how glad I am that I didn't clean the cage last week, like I wanted to!) Question is...is the little one safe with the other anole? It is a fairly young female (we think). She won't hurt the baby, will she? AND, what do I feed the tiny thing??? It's too small for anything except maybe baby food??? ADVICE, PLEASE!

sorry to hear about the ones that didn't make it. I'm new with anoles also but I think as long as they are close in size they should be ok together. I have 2 babies that my friend had (she has 6 out of 7 surviving babies, maybe more now!)and one is dominate over the other.
They eat fruit flies and pinhead crickets. Pinheads are litterally 'pinhead' size. Very tiny. If you can find a source where you live get some and 'gut load' them. (I feed mine orange slices and fish flake foods. Keep them in a critter keeper) My friend and I split a 500 pinhead order. I still have some but they are to big now. Good Luck.
