Hey dude! That's good to hear! I have a baby JCP and I'm having trouble getting him to eat. What did you do to get yours to eat? I tried the deli cup thing, that didn't work, I tried to dangle a fuzzy in front of him and that didn't work. I have him in a 10 gallon tank, my temps are 88 on the warm side and 75-80 on the cool side, which is just fine. At night he is very active. He'll come down from his perch and he'll watch the fuzzys run around. He'll get into a striking pose and then he just doesn't strike. He has been in the tank for a week now. The first couple of days I was handling him, which probably was a big mistake because I know they stress easily, but I haven't handled him in two days. He's a little guy, he knows where his food is, but I'm just wondering when he's gonna attack lol. I figure that when he gets hungry enough he'll want to snatch one of them. Have any suggestions for me?
that will just stress the little guy even more. I would only offer a prey item every few days (3-4) and I would only handle the animal for husbandry issues (cleaning the tank) until it gets on a steady feeding routine. I would dangle the live fuzzy in front of the animal with some tongs/tweezers at dusk/evening when it first starts to get active. Some of my babies would respond to a gentle tap on the nose with the fuzzy but others were stressed by this and prefered if I just let it dangle in front of them until they were ready. You are going to have to see how your animal likes to be fed. I just want to remind you that trying to feed the animal every day is probably going to hurt more than help you get him started. Good luck and keep us posted. Frank Kincade.

Thanks Frank! So I guess I'll take the fuzzys out of the tank and put them in a deli cup in the meantime. When ever I dangle a fuzzy in front of him, he turns his head, then I dangle it in front of him again, and he turns his head the other way as if he's totally uninterested. But at night he comes down, watches them run around like he wants one, and at some point follows them around, but doesn't attack. I guess I'll wait another couple of days and then try to dangle another one, but I have a feeling I'll get the same reaction. here's a pic of the lil guy.
I warmed them up to 92 and then turned on there misting system for 20 minutes i did this twice a day for three days and when i dangled the thawed fuzzy in front of them they went nuts and took it almost right away!!!!!! man i love these guys!
Aaah cool, I'm using live fuzzy's but my snake follows the fuzzy around the tank but never eats it. When I dangle it in front of him the fuzzy is going crazy that it freaks out my snake. I'm trying every method in the book. I'm hopeing that eventually he'll get hungry and eat one
I would say at least 2 years old but I would even wait to at least 3 to allow her to get some nice growth first. Congrats on getting the little one started. I must say that carpets are usually good eaters so it should not be an issue going foward as long as all of your husbandry issues are maintained well. Here is my big male Boelen's head shot.
This pic would've been useful a week or so ago when I was trying to explain the various differences between a wlp and boelen's head.
Nice animal, absolutly love boelen's, too bad the imports come in such bad shape and parasite loaded.
I also have 1.1 captive bred babies that are coming along great. They still have that nice reddish color to them but I will try to keep a picture album of the changes as they get older. Here is one of the big male out on the front lawn with my Oldest boy. Enjoy. Frank Kincade.
