Baby Beardie not eating as well as she should?

Snakemother Sep 19, 2004 06:36 PM

I got a baby beardie at a showa two weeks ago. I've raised 4 babies before, and never had one that turned down crickets before. The first day I had her she ate crickets, but since then she's turned her nose up at them. She eats greens, but the only insect I've found she'll eat is a waxworm. Should I give her waxworms coated in vitamins (and maybe Parazap for appetite?), or just give her greens? She's only 8 inches long, so I'm going crazy with her non-insect diet. She's in a 20 long, her basking site averages 90-95F, she has a new UV bulb, I mist her twice a day and she has a waterbowl. She poops fine, and she's on papertowels.
Any suggestions or advice?
Thanks!

try increasing your temp to about 105 at the basking spot. also, what size crickets are you feeding her? at that age, the crickets should be pretty small (about 3/8". No larger than the space between their eyes. You might want to have a fecal done as well. good luck and keep us posted.

I'd up the temps as posted, and Parazap sure can't hurt. You never know what cooties they have and Parazap can only help with that, and appetite. Some dragons don't like chasing crix. You might try to put them in a shallow dish or ashtray. They get the dragons attention as they run in circles.

I put a higher wattage bulb over her this morning, and upped her temps. She's eaten 5 crickets this morning, so we've made a start! I'm quite sheepish about this - I knew about the higher temps for babies at one time, but my only excuse is I've also been obsessing about a new ball python who wasn't eating, and got 95 fixed in my brain.
Luckily, they're both eating now!
Thanks for all your help!
