breeding question

alex p Sep 19, 2004 07:57 PM

ok, so I have a normal morph, male adult leo that I was interested in introducing to a couple of females. my question is, if i buy a more expensive/marketable morph (albino, blizzard), will it do me any good? will i end up with a few mini-albinos, or just sort of half-assed albinos that don't really look like anything special? i have zero breeding experience and am just considering my options, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you bought and albino and breed it to a normal you would get normal looking babies that are het for albino.

The offspring will be het for whatever recessive trait (albino, hypo, etc...) They will all have the gene but will look like dad. You could breed those het for ___?__ offspring to another albino or ? and get 50% albino or whatever & 50% het for albino or ?. This is a just an example, some traits are codominant so these probabilities won't really apply to those traits. Genetics is a tricky thing at times.

You would get Normals het for albino/blizzard. It means that on the outside it will look like a normal but actually if bred to an albino/blizzard half of the offspring will be albino/blizzard and the other half will be het. Does this make sense?? Hopefully someone else can help you better.
