Nice pics Steve. Thanks for sharing. I've been noticing how many people post pics with someone or themselves holding the bairds. More people seem to hold bairds than do cornsnake people. Just an observation and view on my part. Almost everyone seems to enjoy holding a bairds rat snake. I've had people and seen people at shows and at my place who won't hold another snake, yet seem to be able to hold a bairds. Bairds love to hang on things I guess from the fact they hang around rocky areas and their crevices. Both the person and the biards seem to be comfortable with each other. I know I'm just generalizing and there are definitely exceptions, but I have seen this many times.

My hatchling Bairdi almost seems to like being held. Very slow & tractable in his movements. Never has struck, never has musked. Just a joy to hold.

Nice looking Bairdi I have been trying to find some info on them. Like a good care sheet and any other info. I have had a few snakes in my life but never a rat. My son (5yr old) and his mom got me 2 today, but not much info.
Any info would be very helpfull and appreciated.3
Thanks
If any of this is wrong, feel free to correct me. What I heard from the breeder when I got mine, the care is very similar to a corn snake. Warm side of 82 or so, cool side of 75-78. Water bowl, two hide boxes, very secure caging (as these guys will escape if there is any way out). Some kind of substrate, NOT pine or cedar. Use a good thermometer to measure temps. Feed appropriate size rodents and avoid handling for 2 days after they eat.

Thanks for the info, one more ? I got some pinkies that are about 3/4 to 1 in long, are these too big for the snakes? The snakes are about 14 to 16 in long. They don't seem too big but I don't want to take any chances. Thanks in advance. Mick
it is probably more important than how long they are (within reason, of course). I would probably try them. If the snake thinks they are too big, they won't eat them. If you ever mistakenly feed a food item that is too big, and the snake does manage to eat it, make sure that the temps are perfect and give the snake at least 36 hours to digest the meal. Don't try to snatch it back out of his mouth once he starts swallowing it. I assume that you wouldn't do that, but I have felt that urge before, so I figured that I might as well warn about it.

Very nice bairdi, Steve.
Nice photos too.
Don't you think "corrupted" might be a little too harsh of a word?....LOL
I call it educating.
I can seriously say that my bairdis are two of my favorite snakes.
They have everything it takes to make the perfect pet snake.
Great appetites, active, beautiful colors, easy husbandry requiremnets and in my case easy to handle.
Seriously underated snakes.
I am about to get another pair and hope to produce a couple of cluthes next spring.
Then I can "corrupt" more people.
Notice how many people are getting bairdis? And they are all happy with them. And I think they will enjoy them even more as they mature and change.
Except for that one case of a non-feeder but I seriously believe that one will come around in time.
And one other selling point !!!!!
They are pretty cheap!!

I love how you put it jimmy...

lol. I love my bairdi's and what I told the breeder hey - i'm learning from this, you know? Every problem you encounter teaches you how to handle it so you can help other people - and yourself - in the future. I mean I want him to live of course but his sister/wife (hey its panama city forida thats pretty common even in humans lol) is only about 2 months old and is ALREADY showing red inbetween her scales! plus this is the only bairdi that i've ever heard of that hasnt eaten..my other one eats like a champ!

I do love my corns but Im leaning on my bairds as my new favorite snakes. My male is always out in the open, active day or night. He is a complete joy to take out of his tank and hold.He does have a hardcore feed instinct and once I feed him he is actively tearing his home apart looking for more.None of my other snakes are as active as him.And like Jimmy said for the price you cant get a better snake that is so easy to take care of.Not to mention they arent half bad to look at.And it was Jimmy who got me hooked. Thanks bro...Paul

Congratulations on the addition of a Mexican Bairds. I have several pairs of Mexican Bairds on loan from Steve and Kelli Hammack in addition to a couple I have of my own. I really enjoy Mexican bairds and they are a great addition for anyone.

I got mine from Mark and Kim Bell (at MARS) but did not ask the locale.
Traci
I got mine from that table at the end of the row (close to the door to the food tent) at MARS. He normally has a table that has tons of spiders, but since MARS doesn't allow any insects, he only brought snakes. I saw the ones that the Bells had, Mark Bell said that the ones that I was looking at at the Bells' table were a cross between Mexican and Texans. They were the babies on the inside of the aisle, not on the end of the aisle at the Bells' table. Mark did say that he had a yearling for sale earlier, but it sold fast.
I fed the little guy today, he was used to only eating live, but once I picked up the pinky with tongs and slid it across the feeding tank bottom, he really latched onto it. It was so funny, he sounded like a little rattlesnake while he was eating, he would rattle his tale for a few seconds, stop, then start rattling again.

I'm not sure I want popular opinion on my side -- I've noticed those with the most opinions often have the fewest facts.
You just cant go wrong with a bairds.Im seriously thinking of moving all my boids to make room for ratsnakes.I dont know why I didnt jump on the ratsnake bandwagon years ago. With all these wonderful pics of trans peco's I can see a pair or trio of blondes in the near future.
