Several Rat/Mice breeder questions need a lil help?

bloodboy128 Sep 20, 2004 01:38 AM

Ok well I went to Petco on SATURDAY and i bout a pregneant mouse. She is a petite mouse but very large on the belly and sides so i am 99% sure of pregnancy. I say shes due within 5 days. I also have 1 male mouse just hit breeding age. And 1 female mouse who i am not sure if shes pregneant or not she doesnt appear to be. The pregneant mouse is in the cage with the male mouse and they get along okthey were just introduced today. The other female who i am not sure of pregnancy is in a shoe box alone. Now what i want is 2 litters of mice to freeze and store away for my baby burm before he starts rats. If i leave the male in with the expectant mother will she get pregneant again on the night of birth? If so can i remove the male and feed him to my urm the next night? Also when will she have the second litter?
Thanks for all your help,
Jake

I wouldn't run off and kill a male in one night. I personally would give him a week.
I know it is a dumb thing....but why not just start the burm on rat pups?? The longer rats may be easier for him to eat anyway.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

in my opinion i would skip the mice all together for a burm. im going to have possibly 4 clutches of burms this coming season, and all of them will be started on rats. mice are smaller stuff food, and sometimes it can be a pain (sp?) to switch them over so why not skip a step and save the trouble. and rats will last him alot longer than the mice will. thats all in my honest opinion.
