Pictures for Bob & Frank (gravid monitors)

RobertBushner Sep 20, 2004 01:38 AM

About the positions monitors go into when gravid. Of course there are one or two that are probably/definitely not gravid (there is a male in the mix).

I've seen the goulds do really goofy things at times (similiar to the peachie pictured on it's back), but one picture Rsg showed a a while back takes the cake.

Nothing really to add except the collection of pics (they are all old pics).

What can I say? I suck. hahahahaha

It will happen, it's like I said the other night, FAITH. If that doesn't work, being persistant and stubborn may, as long as I'm not doing the same dumb thing over and over (which I hardly ever do, I'm very creative with dumb things).

This photo was taken when this female was gravid with her first clutch last year

this one was taken 13 days after she laid eggs, a day before she and the male started mating again

When the latter photo was taken, she was acting like she was gravid in every way possible: hanging her belly, refusing food and digging

thanks dave for the help lately...this croc is so close....so far everything you said was right...now if the nesting site is ok she should lay eggs within a week...we'll see....thanks again for the help...billy

Good luck with it, Billy! Exciting times ahead.

If I haven't already recommended it, what you may want to do is set up some heating in at least part of your nest site(s). I put a thermostat controlled heat mat under potential nesting substrate, set the thermostat for 30C and that's where my female chose to lay. I'm coming from limited experience in this area, but temperature did seem to play a major role in where she chose to lay.

My female usually continues to feed for three weeks after mating, then goes off food a week before laying. She lays around 29-30 days after first mating.

F = C * 9/5 32

9/5 = 1.8

Clay Sep 21, 2004 08:15 PM

Sorry, that is 'plus' 32.... I think it removed my 'plus' sign? I'll try again.

F = C * 9/5 32

so 30 degrees = what??????????????....billy

Clay Sep 21, 2004 08:39 PM

(30C x 1.8) 32 = 86F

I always use the online converters. There are a number of websites devoted to converting from imperial to metric and back (among other things).

Clay hasn't joined the noughties, yet... Harumph, the youth of today, using old manual mathematics when they could go digital. Haha (at this point Clay will be saying 'die, dave')
