on reptiles ( snakes ). What exactly does flagyl treat in reptiles ? How important is the right dosage pertaining to weight of animal ? There seems to be conflicting info on how to administer dosage on the liquid suspension either by oral dosage or injected into food item intended for feeding to reptile.

Thanks in advance.

Flagyl is the trade name for Metronidazole. It is an antimicrobial used to eliminate protozoans. Metronidazole is a prodrug and works by interrupting the protozoan's abilty to replicate DNA. It is a dangerous drug if dosed improperly. Oral suspension is the best way to administer Metronidazole. It can be injected into food items, but absorbtion rates aren't as good that way.

the treatment of PMV virus ? ( alleged Paramyxoviridae or Paramyxo virus in snakes ). If I understand the virus in snakes, there is an increase documentation of this in snakes of the southwest particular in venomous and subocs but not exclusive ? Does Pseudomonas and or Sars have anything related to this virus ? Thanks again for anymore info on this.

Flagyl (Metronidazole) would be of no use in eliminating Ophidian Paramixovirus and would not be the drug of choice against Pseudomonas. Paramixovirus is a virus, not a bacterium. Metronidazole might be somewhat effective against Pseudomonads in the intestinal tract. Something like Enrofloxacin or Amikacin or Ceftazadime would be more suited to eliminating Pseudomonas in other parts of the animals body, such as local infections, respiratory infections, or even systemic infections. Metronidazole is effective against things like Giardia, Entamoeba, Trichonomads, etc.
