I assume you'll be using a typical 28 qt. sweater box for your cornsnakes. I have seen some specimens that might be a bit cramped in such a box but I think most will be fine.
I build my racks upside down as pictured at ARBreptiles.com
But I don't recommend using the boxes as spacers. Instead I cut spacers as pictured on the FineGTPs.com website
Also, if using melamine, I coat the underside of each shelf with rubberized contact paper before assembling the rack.
I also don't use a back with melamine racks but instead use a piece of foil-covered, styrene insulation.
