IR Thermometer

cmh7s Sep 20, 2004 02:36 PM

I've been looking into getting an IR thermometer but it seems that even the better ones have an error of 3degF. Isn't that alot? What do you all use and what is the error on it? Thanks.

I have a temp gun from Pro Exotics. It works fine for me. I wouldn't think that an error of /- 3 degrees is going to hurt. The only time I would really worry about having a more accurate reading is for incubation purposes. Even then, temperatures could fluctuate a degree or two beyond your control.

It's actually not that I love or even like snakes. I just hate rodents.

I agree with you, a 3 degree deviation is HUGE because that means there is a 6 degree gap of where the real temperature is. I could probably feel a surface and tell you a 6 degree gap that it is in.

I have a Rytech ST20 model IR gun..it has a .5 degree deviation, but you are paying for that precision. I got mine on ebay for ~$100. It is a bit of an overkill, but I use it for other applications as well in my workplace so I can justify paying that much.
