Western Hognose, strange behavior?

EdzPhatNugz420 Jun 26, 2003 05:49 PM

Hi everyone, I have a young Western Hognose I've had for about 5 months. The snake has always been pretty tame but lately he has been flattening out his neck (kinda like a cobra) and striking blindly with a closed mouth if I get anywhere near him. I had stopped handling the snake for a while, could this have something to do with it? I've never heard of this behavior from a Western Hognose before. Any advice is appreciated.

Aside from huffing and puffing, and playing dead, striking with its mouth closed is part of its natural behavior when in defense.

Pick him up and he will stop. Start handling him again.
Enjoy,
-Mo
