CrittersMailToo Sep 20, 2004 04:55 PM

i read that hatchling corns get stressed if they r in too big of a tank. so i was thinking of putting him in a 10gal. If this is true how big should he when hes able to go into the 20L tank?

I started my corns and a milk in 10 gallon tanks. They liked those for about 6-8 months then wanted a bigger tank. But I've read they can be in 10 gallon sizes till like a year old. Now I have a baby sonoran gopher in a 5.5 gallon size tank till he gets alittle bigger.

I move mine up when they can't stretch out in their enclosure.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

I've heard rumors to that effect too but never heard it substantiated with facts. My feeling is if you're providing multiple hides and small enough hides (moving up in size as your snake grows) so the snake feels comforted in them, it shouldn't matter what size tank you keep. That being said, a corn could stay in a 10 gallon for a solid year plus if need be.

10's are fine as long as you provide enough cover. any tank is really okay as long as you have immense cover all over it. the thing is they need a lot more small hides in a larger tank. i have been keeping my bairdi hatchlings in "reptile ranch" - similar to kritter keepers from walmart.
