Stud fees... do people do this?

repzoo44 Sep 20, 2004 06:02 PM

I got to thinking about it this weekend. Do any breeders "rent" their snakes out for the genes or is this something that is frowned upon. I know some people do breeding loans but what about stud services. Seems like it could be a good way for hobbyists to get morphs or hets a little cheaper and for breeders to make some extra cash without an excessive amount of work. Any thoughts on this, pros or cons? Thanks

I dont think a lot of breeders will trust just anyone with their prized male morphs, no matter how much people pay. And if it was high enough, it would probably be more worthwhile to buy the real thing.

Just my opinion.

People don't give out their males if they are smart. I have some friends who have very large females and i take their girls sometimes to mate them to one of my males. I usually give them one of the offspring and keep the rest. Giving out a male to someone you dont know could be catastrophic for a breeder. Always take someones female if you're going to breed it one of your males. But no there are not too many people who will do something like that unless you know them. When there is 100's of 1000's of $$$$$ at stake anybody can get a little shady so be careful.

I was thinking the other way around. If you were to send your female to a breeder and let them mate there. I guess there are a lot of things that could go wrong. Thanks,
