femoral pores

PattySchildt Sep 20, 2004 07:09 PM

Not sure if I spelled this right, but I have an adult male water dragon that had a discharge of some type from his femoral pores today. It was dark and crusty, and when I went to pick it off, more "stuff" came out of the pore. It was white. It was about 2 inches long. Just wondering if someone can tell me what this is, and if I should be concerned or not.
This is my first post in this forum. I have been monitoring it for over a year, and have learned some very helpful things here. Thanks in advance for any insight into this matter.

femoral pores are used to scent basking areas and territory in general. Excretions are normal, though I've never heard of it being such a noticeable amount. I would check the area for signs of infection, red color, swelling, etc. If it doesn't look infected I wouldn't be conserned.

Thanks for the info. I did a little research myself and learned about femoral pores. He seems to be just fine, no signs of infection or any problems. He's a pretty healthy dragon overall.
