Lies....

LazyLizard Sep 20, 2004 08:12 PM

Hey everybody. I am new to the forum and to Anoles as well.
Long story short I went to a fair and w/out knowing anything about Anoles I believed when they told me all I had to do was spray the cage and feed them some crickets every other day.
Once I got home and researched the net I found the truth and put them on a bigger cage and provided them w/ the best I could.
I've been observing them and they seem fine but I am a little concerned. They're not very active at all... they mostly lay under the light or hide under leaves. The one i believe to be the male is always rubbing his nose on the glass window. Is this normal? I've been researching on the web a lot and trying to make inprovements. All help appreciated. Thanks!

they are probably 'wild caught' anoles that want back into the wild. i'm new to anoles also. my friends bought a pair of bahama anoles and they have mated several times. they have 6 out of 7 surviving babies. so i took 2. hopefully females. (i'm pretty sure they are both female)
what i've read they need a tank with more height to it then width. so i bought a 25 gallon tall tank. have PLENTY of branches in there with them and also some potted plants to help with humidity. they need a heat sorce light, I just use a 60 wt incandesent bulb, and a UVB light. The repti sun 5.0 is suppose to be good. (I want to get one. The UVB light I have is only 3.0) I feed mine fruit flies and very small crickets. Also mist them couple times day.
I'm guessing yours are just so stressed that the male? just wants out. Be sure the temps are right also. I have a digital that reads 90 way up by the heat light and like 78 at the bottom. The lights are also on timers so they get a day/night cycle.
Another thought is they have parasites? I've never had that problem with mine since they are CB (knock on wood). Hope some of this has helped. Good Luck

One thing i have found to help anoles emensly is to make sure they are very well hidden. Provide branches and foliage so they feel like you cant see them, this way you will be much more likely to see them behaving "naturally"
