i have always read to keep two or three females with one male. i guess the less females, the less chance for personalities to conflict but if there were ample hiding spots, basking spots and food i really don't see why four females and a male would not get along but five lizards in a cage? that is alot of poop for one area
as for sexing them, the boys have a large row of scales near their vents and the girls do not. there are some physical traits to look for too but they are not always fool proof, like males usually have better color, more spots on their chin area and i think someone said once that girls have black dots near their vents. i hope this helps some
