It's that time of year again...

My Easterns have been snubbing food for the past week or more, here in Central Virginia.
I'll be tucking them all in soon: with any luck I'll expand their enclosure while they're down, so they'll have more room to ramble when they wake up next spring.

If you can make more room in full sun that would be great. Due to necessity I had to make my turtle pens on the north side of the house, but I have positioned their pens as far from the house as I can so the sun will shine on them in the late spring and early fall. I feel it's earier to make shade with plantings and structures then to make sunlight, lol!

The area available for expansion is in fact sunnier, so it should work out well. We're hoping to end up with about 1000sq ft of turtle habitat when we're done with this next phase.
The bigger the better, I say!

Mine stay outdoors year round. Aside from having created 2 hibernacula for them (18"-24" deep, sloped sides and filled with a combination of soil, peatmoss and dead leaves) and making sure that they go into them when it starts getting cold and staying cold, I don't really do anything special.
If I recall correctly, last year they didn't go under and stay under until early November.
