My leopard geckos are fighting......

Hayblinkin Sep 20, 2004 09:23 PM

Okay here's the story... I have 2-30 gallon tanks. In one tank is Saki(male patternless) with Jiffy(female), and in the other cage is Skip(male high yellow) and yin yang(female). They are all about a year old except for Yin yang who is 11 years old. Both sets of 2 have been living together for about 6 months. There was never any issues. They got along great. Just recently though, in both tanks, the males have been going after the females. Saki grabbed Jiffy's neck and she foought back grabbing him. She also has some cuts on her body from him. Is this normal mating? and will it stop? At the same time Skip has been chasing the 11 year old yin yang around, and she has been attacking him with her tail. So I figured I'd try to switch the females. This worked in saki's tank, but not with Skip. He went after Jiffy. Saki was okay with yin yang however. So then I put yin yang back and Skip went after her worse than before, so she is now in with saki, and Jiffy. This seems to alleviate some of saki's attacks on Jiffy and he has seemed to calm down. But i feel like he will do It again, but I feel bad Jiffy is scared in the corner of the cage and bruised. What do I do? Should I just leave the females together and separate the males into 2 more cages?HELPPPPP!!!!

hm.. Something tells me that if you put the 2 females, Jiffy's going to be mating with Yin-Yang...

Since the males are ONLY going after Jiffy, it's extremely possible that Jiffy is in fact a Male. Since they're only a year old, I'm assuming that you haven't tried breeding Jiffy until now. Even if he/she was temp. sexed as female - and might not have huge... erm.. Evidence that he/she is a male, it's entirely possible.

Take a very close look at Jiffy's underside. To me, that sounds like 2 males going after each other - not a male attempting to make with a female, especially since the males are completely different towards Yin-Yang.

In other words, Separate Jiffy from them ALL.

She is definately female. As I said though, Skip was going after yin yang too. Both males were going after the females. I have had them sexed professionally.

Ah.. I missed the part about Skip going after Yin-Yang.

Honestly, if they're leaving marks, you need to separate them.

And I remember another thread that was on the forum-which-cannot-be-named.... Someone had a leo that they knew for absolute certainty it was a male - had all the right tests and the leo had the right "parts"... they thought... Then, one day, the leo had eggs.

I've heard about it happening the other way around, too.

Other than that, though, the males are way too aggressive for the females to be safe.
