lazy gecko?

jaybfresh May 14, 2003 10:25 PM

Hey, my leo is about 3-4 months old, and it just sits around all day and all night. it is active when i take it out of the cage, but otherwise just sits in its cave, occasionally poking it's head out to grab a cricket. i use a 40 watt blacklight at night. could the temperatures be too cool at night for the gecko to be actice? unfortunatley i cant read the thermometer at night, but it should be around 73-75 degrees.

Sounds kinda like normal leo behavior for some. You should have a constant heat gradient all the time. 87 to 90 degrees on the warm side down to 70,75 on the cool side 24/7. The leo will put himself where he wants to be heat wise.

Also.. unless you stay up all night watchin him, how can you be sure he doesnt come out at night? =) if hes eating ok, and you have the right temps for the daytime (sounds like you have them correct for the nightime), i'm sure he's probably just a little shy, and he probably does come out at night while you are asleep.
