Are you referring to Black kingsnakes, getula niger (and not the more popular Mexican Black kings)? If so, I have two. The male is an adult, about three feet long or so. The female is a subadult, probably wont be ready to breed till at least next year (probably the year after). The male's age is unknown, but judging from his shedding cycle when I first got him, he is probably just a few years old. The male is the most tame snake of all the snakes I've had, just really mellow (and these snakes have a reputation for being nippy). The female on the other hand is a bit more fiesty, but will probably settle with frequent handling. Sorry for the long post, but I highly recommend this subspecies.

i have an adult colony of 2.3 also pairs held back from '01 and '02, of l.g.nigra(not nigritus),,mine originate from n.ala, and as adults are coalblack they top out at around 4ft. and are very gentle kings much like l.g.gelula where as nigritus tend to be nippy they are quite docile in nature they are often called black chain kings also because as babies they do resemble a chainking very much but the pattern fades as they grow becoming "coalblack" as adults though some do retain certain amounts of speckling also, they are black not brown or chocolate but BLACK! even their tongue's are black great snakes,,,,thomas

I have a 2002 nigritis and she's one of the easiest to handle snakes in my collection. She hasn't attempted to bite or musk.
She's about 22" long. Very active, eats great, neat little snake. Now if I could just find a male mexi black to match...
